ACP Receives ACCME Commendations

The AVLS Is Awarded ACCME Accreditation with Commendation
San Leandro, CA – December 13, 2017 – In recognition of the American Vein & Lymphatic Society’s (AVLS) quality educational programs, the AVLS has received accreditation with commendation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). With this honor, the AVLS will be accredited for the next six years, which is the highest accreditation an organization can receive from the ACCME. Only a fraction of ACCME Accredited Programs receive the commendation status.
“I am proud to announce that the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the recognized CME accrediting authority in North America, has accredited the American Vein & Lymphatic Society’s education program for six years, with commendation,” said AVLS President Neil Khilnani. “The AVLS is the only ACCME accredited CME provider that is focused only on venous disease and attaining commendation status is a tremendous honor.”
According to the ACCME, the purpose of accreditation with commendation is to highlight CME providers who are implementing the best practices across their association in teaching, engaging and evaluating. The distinction also serves to recognize the achievements of organizations that are advancing their respective field and its impact on healthcare professionals and patients.
The AVLS identified becoming an accredited provider of continuing medical education for physicians as a high priority after conducting surveys with its membership several years ago. In response, the leadership of the AVLS created a goal to not only become an accredited CME provider, but also to attain commendation status.
“The culmination of this effort to achieve our membership and leadership goals is finally upon us,” said Khilnani. “I would like to thank our staff, especially Stephen Moss, Director of CME, as well as the volunteers in the CME related committees for their tireless efforts to elevate the standards of the AVLS’s CME program to commendation status across our educational offerings.”
In order to continue to best serve its membership, the AVLS already has plans to grow its educational offerings in 2018 through both courses and online educational content. The AVLS’s Annual Congress will be adding a new track for lymphedema therapists in 2018, in addition to continuing to provide content on the latest advances in the field of venous and lymphatic medicine.
“This is incredible news as it clearly represents the commitment of the American Vein & Lymphatic Society as a leading source of continuing education for our membership and the field in general in the treatment and management of venous and lymphatic disease,” said AVLS Executive Director Dean Bender. “The timing of this achievement is instrumental as the College plans to expand our continuing medical education program in 2018 and beyond.”
