Research Standing Committee

The mission of the Education Standing Committee is to establish strategic direction for the AVLS in the domains of:

  • Research and scientific advancement in venous & lymphatic disease, treatment and care across the Society
    • Increase evidence-based practice information.
    • Increase use of data by providers, payers, and industry.
    • Increase collaboration among registries.
    • Increase clinical research among members.
    • Increase participation in the registry.
    • Investigate additional sources of funding.
  • Responsible for the development of funding grants from the FVLD or other sources

The mission of the Research & Scientific Advisory Committee is to:

  • To provide direct oversite and support for all AVLS supported and/or commissioned research projects that will support the goals and objectives of the Society
    • Establish the research priorities for the Society
    • Assign/Grant commissioned research projects to investigators and ensure timely and appropriate execution.
    • Pursue 20-30 Society based publications annually

The mission of the PRO 2.0 Registry Advisory Committee is to:

  • To provide direct oversite and support of the PRO 2.0 Venous & Lymphatic Registry
    • Responsible for maintaining the registry platform
    • Protect the integrity of the data
    • Conduct data queries

Key Priorities

  1. Complete PRO 2.0 Development & Migration
    1. Develop analytical resources
  2. Establish a working Research committee to assign and pursue research priorities
    1. General Research projects from PRO Registry (up to 20 publications annually)
    2. Lead Medtronic Commissioned research project
    3. Lead Merit Medical Commissioned research project
    4. Lead Boston Scientific (BTG) Commissioned research project
  3. Complete the 3 current guideline projects
    1. Initiate new Lymphedema Guideline project

Statement of Purpose:
The Research Standing Committee is responsible for the oversight and direction of advisory committees that create and promote clinical practice research in venous and lymphatic disease. The Research Standing Committee is required to provide clear and concise directions to those advisory committees assigned to them regarding any initiatives or projects that are pursued by the Board of Directors or activities detailed within the Research goal within the AVLS’ 2016-2019 Strategic Plan.

Research Advisory Committee

Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of the Research Advisory committee is to review grant proposals submitted to the AVLS on the basis of advancing phlebology, scientific merit, feasibility of completion and publication in a peer reviewed journal, and the reputation and reliability of the grant applicant or institution. In addition, the Research Advisory Committee conducts periodic reviews of the AVLS research grants program on an as needed basis or when directed by the Research Standing Committee.

PRO Registry Operations/Oversight Committee

Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of the AVLS PRO Venous Registry Operations/Oversight Committee is to provide direction and support to non-scientific registry operations, including provider agreements, procedural aspects, and strategic messaging. The AVLS PRO Venous Registry Operations/Oversight Committee must approve any content released from the registry for projects requiring registry data and may have the opportunity to review de-identified registry data prior to release.

Scientific Guidelines Committee

Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of the Scientific Guidelines Committee is to oversee the development of standards of practice and/or clinical practice guidelines that will improve the care for patients with venous and lymphatic disorders. The Committee recommends the creation of new standards and guidelines as appropriate, identifies experts to write the standards/guidelines, and makes recommendations to the AVLS Board of Directors for organizational endorsement of resulting documents.
